Yarn bombing and a birthday in Bath

Another weekend, another 50th birthday party - yep, they're rolling in, thick and fast. The latest celebration was over in Bath, the beautiful Georgian city/World Heritage site that's always a treat to visit. On Bath Street, there'd been a spot of Yarn Bombing (me neither), lovely handmade crochet flowers were wrapped around the golden columns. I bumped into Emma Leith, the artist who organised the project as part of Bath in Fashion to raise money for the charity Kids Company, she told me, 'The idea is to awaken people to their surroundings and inject humour into everyday objects. It's like graffiti with wool '. And just like Bristol-born Banksy, Leith's handiwork is highly desirable  - security guards had to be employed to prevent the crochet roses being nabbed overnight.

If you are planning to visit Bath and like the idea of yarn bombing, then yiu must pay a visit to the American Museum, were Kaffe Fassett has been hard at work.

Good suggestion Anna - we didn't have time on this occasion but I've just checked and the exhibition is on till 2 November 2014.

Happy you-know-what. I'd love to visit Bath - I spent a summer in Bath, Maine and it's a charming little city too. Related, perhaps? : >

I wish we'd had time to visit bath when we were in GB last year. LOVE the yarn bombing. I have a friend who participates up in Edinburgh. I've seen some amazing works...like entire trees covered in yarn.

One of the Liz's had her very civilised hen weekend in Bath marred only by the proprietress of the posh guest house we stayed in taking a fancy to me and trying to touch me up every time she encountered me on the stairs, what lurks beneath the surface of these posh places, eh?
Love a bit of yarn bombing, not surprised Emma's creations are closely guarded, they'd look fab in most houses! x

We have yarn bombing going on in Denver too, and I find it very festive. I have golden memories of Bath from over 10 years ago, which I will treasure always.

Love Bath! This yarn bombing is kind of neat. Like the Jane Austen museum there too.

I adore Lucienne Day's designs. This is exciting news.

There's a good deal of yarnbombing going on just down the road in Cambridge too.
